I have been asked, by kind interviewers in Stockholm and elsewhere, whether I consider myself a poet or a novelist. I do not know what I am. I only know that I have written, every day of my adult life, and that the writing has never become easier. It has only become more necessary.
What I have to offer my reader is small, and it is also everything I have. It is a record of having paid attention. That is all a writer can do.
